Portia put in place an executive management team that focussed on bringing container operations up to international standards and increasing the port’s role as a regional transhipment hub. Portia were instrumental in developing the Port’s safety strategy and policy in relation to the new OSHA legislation that the T&T Government put into statute.
Training programmes were also developed by Portia along with a policy of mentoring local “counter-part” staff in order to assist this strategy and improve the overall capabilities of the port. A “Train the Trainer” programme was developed to ensure local equipment operator trainers were trained to international standards to allow them to deliver quality internal training and assess local equipment operators going forwards.
Portia also delivered a range of training throughout this concession including but not limited to Health and Safety Training, Hazardous Cargo Training and Vessel Yard Planner Training.
