“Mr Portia” a.k.a. John Owens is finally taking a well-deserved “curtain-call” after over 50 years of dedicated service to the Maritime Sector.
John had originally qualified as a Chartered Engineer and spent 14 years’ experience working in a range of senior positions in asset management and maintenance in the Port of Liverpool.
In 1983, John moved to Portia Management Services Limited (Portia) as a Technical Director and has provided over 38 years of excellence since then. In 1999 John became Managing Director and was responsible for business development and quality assurance.
John was at the forefront of the Portia expansion into Port Management and Operations concessions in the mid-1990s’ and has worked in over 50 countries across 4 Continents.
Portia’s General Manager Colin Jones has been appointed to the Portia Board and he said “Portia just won’t feel the same without John at the helm and I have some big shoes to fill. I would also just like to put my personal thanks on record, as John’s support to me over the years has been invaluable. Although John will be sorely missed, all at Portia wish him well in his retirement.”
